Chair's Message by Michael Licciardello
pic_MikeLWell Spring is here and the Carolina Chapter is in full bloom. The first two meetings of the year were well attended and I want to thank everyone for their support in making these events a success.

Our first meeting was on February 18th and was held at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. The entire meeting cost was sponsored by Ajinomoto USA. Our featured technical presentation was “Formulating for the Asian Market” presented by Bruce Gesslein of Ajinomoto USA. Bruce provided much insight into Asian market trends and the formulation differences between the various Asian regions.

The sponsorship proceeds from our first meeting were directly applied to our second meeting which allowed us to offer the CEP course “Skin Science for the Cosmetic Chemist” instructed by Randy Wickett, to our members at a dramatically reduced price. The meeting was hosted on April 22nd by the Eastman Chemical at their Training Facility in Columbia, South Carolina. Our other sponsors for this meeting were Evonik and Glenn Corporation.

I had the honor of presenting the Chapter 2009 Chapter Speaker Award to Zoe Diana Draelos, MD for her presentation “Cosmecuticals: New Concepts for Topical Rejuvenation”. Dr. Draelos was presented a plaque and a check for $150, which she graciously donated back to the Chapter. The Chapter will use this money to offset member registration fees to Chapter events.

We have upgraded our Chapter web-site www.carolinascc.org with a number of enhancements, particularly in the area of multiple event registrations and the ability to make payments for non-event items such as sponsorships and advertising. So if you haven’t visited in a while please do, as you will also need to re-register.  For security reasons we were unable to copy this information to our upgrade.

The Chapter will now prepare for our premiere event which is held bi-annually at the beautiful Kiawah Island Resort. This year’s event will be held on October 7th and 8th and is entitled “Naturally Carolina”, so mark your calendar! You don’t want to miss this event; registration is now available on our website www.carolinascc.org along with other important information. The site is being updated weekly as details are being finalized, so visit often!

I look forward to seeing you at Kiawah and as always feel free to contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it anytime.
